Mallorca is the largest of the Balearic Islands and has long been a popular destination for British tourists looking for a break in the sun. If you are would like to visit the island but do not like the idea of mixing with the 18 to 30 crew in a crowded hotel, don’t overlook the other options. It is worth looking into villa holiday breaks in Mallorca, where you can rent your own private villa with a pool. The unspoilt north is becoming more popular among people who would not previously have dreamed of visiting the Island.

While relaxing on the beach or by the pool may be the main attractions on a holiday to Mallorca, you won’t be stuck for other things to do. Why not take a day cruise on a boat around the island? You will enjoy fabulous views of the coastline from your position on the crystal clear water. Lunch can be included on your cruise, which is a great opportunity to sample some of the fabulous local cuisine. Mallorcan dining is much coveted, with even celebrity chefs making the journey to the island to sample its delights.

As well as its cuisine, Mallorca boasts some fantastic wine. A vineyard tour of the centre of the island will reveal local traditions as well as excellent food and beverages. Another area that is less populated by tourists is The Serra de Tramuntana mountain range, which runs down the west coast of Mallorca. If you are looking for an active holiday, this is a great place to explore on foot or by bicycle. The area is a World Heritage site owing to the unusual techniques used to allow farming on its steep slopes over the past centuries.

The more adventurous traveller may enjoy spending a day or an evening horseback riding. If you are lucky you might even be able to incorporate a ride along the beach at sunset. In the unusual event of bad weather, there is still plenty to do. Families in particular will enjoy the Mallorca Marineland, Aqualand Al Arenal Water Park and the Palma Aquarium. If you are feeling really adventurous you could hire a scooter and make your own way around the island to take in the sights.

Whatever you decide to do during your trip to Mallorca, venturing away from the traditional tourist areas will result in a much more exciting holiday, taking in the true culture and traditions of the Balearic Islands.
