Season’s Bleedings Part 2: Merry Friday!

by The Ninja on December 24, 2009

When I was a ninja-let still in diapers and training-tabi, Christmas was the highlight of the year, a break from the ordinary into a fritteringly exciting world of myriad possibilities. The gradual build-up in festivities, the flurrying preparations, and the very not-knowing of what was in that little box made me shiver with joy and anticipation.

Nowadays, being a weatherbeaten warrior who receives little and expects less, the joy of Christmas has dimmed in my titanium-encased heart. Instead of frolicking in the festivities, I retreat to the depths of Shinobi Valley and meditate on the cruelty of humans in shopping aisles and highways, the pettiness and hurried over-extension that leads to so much death and tragedy at a time meant for celebration and happiness. But as the dawn breaks on the day itself, I turn inwards, to those little fragments of Christmas past. I understand the world has not especially changed and has no reason to in the future, but I often attempt to convince myself otherwise.

Ed: The idea of Merry Friday was appropriated from Mul, who probably appropriated it from somewhere else.

Merry Christmas Ninjas! Hope Santa treats you well! Although, given your Xmas tree ornaments, he might be an alternative ethnic Santa?

Merry Christmas Ninjas. I’m surprised there wasn’t a shuriken at the top of the tree, although Bruce Lee is probably a worthier angel :)

Such is the way of the ninja I guess. One, thankfully, I do not share or envy :)

Merry Christmas, for what it’s worth. I hope that is minimal bah-ing of humbugs.
